World Premiere of Theatre 1&2 at Busan Film Fest 『演劇』２部作の釜山国際映画祭ワールドプレミア上映

Theatre 1 & 2 will be world-premired at the Busan International Film Festival at 14:00 on Saturday, October 6th (Lotte Cinema Centum City 2). Another screening will be held at 10:00 on Thursday, October 11th (CGV Centum City 3). I'll do an Q&A on Oct. 6th. See you!

PROGRAM NOTE
This magnificent six-hour documentary, divided into and , meticulously observes the artistic world of Japan’s leading theater director, Hirata Oriza, and his company, Seinendan, just as it observes the relationship between art and society. reveals Hirata’s elaborate creative process, which captures even the smallest nuance of performance and his persistent efforts to keep his company. traces the director’s relation to society for feasibly maintaining his company and the art form that is theater. He meets with government authorities and actively attracts sponsors; he goes around local towns promoting theater and advocates theater education in schools. And his theater reaches beyond the borders of Japan and interacts with the world. Director Soda Kazuhiro invested 307 hours of shooting time from July 2008 to March 2009 and dedicated a further 2 years of editing to complete this film. Born out of this intimate relationship, the film takes the Seinendan and artistic world of Hirata to the exciting drama of humanity and leads us into the world of theater. (CHO Young-jung)

<연극 1>과 <연극 2>로 나뉘어진 6시간을 넘는 이 장대한 다큐멘터리는 일본을 대표하는 연출가인 히라타 오리자와 그가 이끄는 연극단 “청년단”의 무대예술의 세계와 예술과 사회와의 관계를 꼼꼼히 관찰하는 다큐멘터리이다. <연극 1>은 연기의 미세한 부분까지 놓치지 않는 히라타의 정교한 연출 방식과 연극단을 유지하기 위한 그의 지난한 노력을 보여준다. <연극 2>는 이 연극단과 연극이라는 예술형식을 지키기 위해 히라타가 사회와 맺고 있는 관계를 추적한다. 그는 정부관료를 만나고, 후원자를 유치한다. 지방을 다
니며 연극을 전파하고, 학교에서 연극교육을 실시한다. 그리고 그의 연극은 일본을 넘어 세계와 교류한다. 소다 감독은 이 작품을 2008년 7월부터 2009년 3월까지 307시간의 촬영시간과 2년의 편집기간을 걸쳐 탄생시켰다. 이 밀접한 관계를 통해 태어난 이 작품은 청년단과 히라타의 예술 세계를 흥미진진한 휴먼드라마로 승화시키며, 새로운 연극의 세계로 안내한다. (조영정)
